Our Company
Meraki [mer-ah-kee] is a Greek word used to describe doing something with soul, passion, creativity, or love — when you put “something of yourself” into what you're doing, whatever it may be.
Meraki Theatre is Manitoba’s only Student-Driven theatre company!
Meraki Theatre’s programming is rooted in building self-confidence and empowering our students voices through student-driven theatre. We provide opportunities for students to engage in theatre in an accepting and collaborative environment. Our classes focus on providing opportunities to have young voices heard and their ideas brought to life.
Education is at the root of our company’s existence because our founder, Taylor Gregory, is not only a certified teacher, but she created Meraki Theatre after teaching IB Theatre at ACS Athens in Greece in 2017. “Meraki” is a Greek word which means to do something with passion, creativity and love, and everything we do within our company, we put our heart and soul into. We incorporate the Manitoba Curriculum into our programming and productions and partner with schools to offer workshops, classes, PD day camps, and live theatre productions for students with the goal to make theatre and arts education more accessible. Our programs focus on the mental health and well being of youth through self expression and creativity.
We are committed to creating theatre experiences that are affordable and accessible. Every year we host a fundraiser for our Youth Scholarship Fund to be able to offer scholarships and subsidized programming to students and families who may face financial barriers when accessing arts programming. Our studio is wheelchair accessible and we welcome families and students of all abilities to engage in our programming.
Meraki Theatre lives, creates, and operates on Treaty 1 Territory which is the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples and is the homeland of the Red River Métis. We are made up of a team of artists who are passionate about the theatre, education and arts community here in Winnipeg.
